Chatham Borough and Chatham Township – commonly called “the Chathams” – are neighboring communities in Morris County, New Jersey. Since the mid 1970s, these communities have shared library services and a unified school district. The Chathams were named one of the top ten best places to live in 2005 by Money Magazine. Only a 20-minute drive from Newark and only a little further to New York City, the Chathams are wonderful, tight-knit communities that are ideal to call home.

Shopping and Dining
Stores in the area feature small-town retailers including grocery stores, toy and clothing stores, and unique boutiques. If you’re looking for a larger shopping venue, the Mall at Short Hills, the Livingston Mall, and the Morris County Mall Shopping Center are all located within a short distance of the Chathams. These malls each offer retail options ranging from upscale boutiques like Louis Vuitton to department stores like J.C. Penney’s or Macy’s.

There is one word to describe dining in the Chatham’s: variety! Within a 15-mile radius, there are over 5,000 restaurants. There is every type of cuisine imaginable including Italian, French, Thai, and Japanese. Some of the favorite local restaurants are Restaurant Serenade, Arminio’s Italian Corner & Pizzaria, Tolima, and Taste of Asia Part II.

Parks and Recreation
There are a handful of city parks within the Chathams that include picnic areas, playgrounds, all-purpose fields, and some swimming pools. Chatham Recreation, a joint venture of Chatham Borough and Chatham Township, also offers various programs for youth.

Living
With a low crime rate, great schools, and beautiful homes, Chatham real estate is bound to please. The average sale price of homes in the area is around $670,000. Most of the homes were built in 1939 or earlier. Typically, you will find pre to mid 20th century homes that have been renovated with modern amenities; however, there are also a number of new, custom-designed houses, townhouses, and condominiums to choose from.

Schools, Health, Transportation
Chatham parents are proud of their school district which ranks extremely high in overall quality. Some of the top schools are Milton Avenue Elementary School, Chatham Middle School, and Chatham High School. Chatham High School maintains nearly a 100 percent graduation rate.

In healthcare,the closest hospital is in neighboring Summit, called the Overlook Medical Center. There are also several other hospitals nearby including Morristown Memorial Hospital, Saint Barnabas Medical Center, and the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

Chatham real estate is located near Route 24, which runs from Newark to Morristown. Once in Newark, there are many different major roads including Interstate 78, 95, 278 that allow for easy access to New York City and beyond.
